Position Description
The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is an independent and impact-creating organization that aims to lead the industry toward a shared vision of sustainability based upon a joint approach for measuring, evaluating, and improving performance. As a non-profit organization, it has members from across the apparel, footwear and textile sector, but exists independently outside any one company so that it can drive progress. The SAC’s collective action efforts bring more than 280 global brands, retailers, manufacturers, NGOs, academics and industry associations together. They represent about half of the apparel and footwear industry along the whole supply chain – from sustainability pioneers to organizations just getting started.
The Director, Events will be responsible for all events hosted by the organization, including those hosted in conjunction with other organizations, as well as the successful implementation of the broader event strategy. Currently, the SAC is home to a global membership conference, the flagship event for SAC members, as well as more regional events directed and specific audiences, like manufacturers or retailers/brands. These can be a mix of in-person, hybrid or virtual only.
As a strong event strategist, you will enjoy overseeing numerous events at one time, ensuring delegates, sponsors and speakers all have the best possible experience, while also delivering key messages and objectives as identified by the individual event strategies. You will also enjoy rolling up your sleeves and doing what needs to be done, working collaboratively across the organization and with external partners to ensure both event content and production are on point. This is an exciting opportunity for you, a seasoned event professional, to bring your experience to a purpose-driven organization and help ensure that events contribute to the success of the organization, both from a member value perspective, and financially for the organization.
As one of the SAC’s key brand ambassadors, you will help to spread the SAC story to external audiences. The role will provide broad support to the wider Marketing & Communications team in performing duties in support of the organization’s strategic goals while nurturing key relationships. This role also includes two direct reports, with a third coming in 2024, who help manage the day-to-day event needs and associated partnerships.
